Poductivity | How the Podcast Has Shaped How We Learn

By Campfire

Okay, so I nerd out way too much over podcasts. Even as a lifelong musician, I now spend almost all my time learning through podcasts or YouTube instead of listening to music. With an ever-expanding catalog of options in all categories to listen to, this industry has shaped how we consume content, and in turn, how we learn.

To give you some history behind it, podcasting (or previously known as audio blogging) began in the 1980’s, but it was really in 2004 when Apple created the platform to distribute podcasts that it evolved and grew rapidly. However, since 2015, there has been this boom and now podcasts can be found and accessed anywhere in the world. In 2019, there were an estimated 700,000 podcasts and 29 million episodes. To get through all of them in a year, you would have to listen to 79,452 episodes a day!

With podcasts being free to listen to and accessed through Apple, Stitcher, Spotify and more, we can now learn wherever we go. It has changed how frequently we consume content, allowing us to search and begin consuming within seconds without any barrier of entry. This form of content creation has revolutionized how we tell stories, share news and discover topics and ideas in ways we previously neglected.

To Campfire, storytelling is what we are passionate about, and we are excited to be releasing our own podcasts beginning March 2020. In the meantime, below are the podcasts we are listening to, and think you should too.
